Overview

Bonito is a dried fish product that is very familiar to Cantonese people for making soup and porridge. Almost all teahouses and hotels have a famous snack porridge called Bonito and Peanut Porridge. The combination of bonito and peanuts must have been tested by history. They are a pair of good brothers. Peanuts can nourish the lungs, have the effects of relieving coughs and reducing phlegm. They are more effective for chronic coughs and whooping coughs. Eating peanuts regularly can be good for your skin. Bonito is the dried product of cod, a cold-water fish (mainly produced in frigid waters). It is called Bonito by Cantonese people because it looks like firewood. It has the effect of strengthening the spleen and stomach, and replenishing yin and blood. Winter melon is a famous melon and vegetable that can relieve summer heat and has a diuretic effect. You might as well give it a try, it tastes pretty good.

  1. Blanch the pork bones in a pot with boiling water, and wash the floating objects from the pork bones with clean water.

  2. Soak the bonito for more than 30 minutes, wash and cut into small pieces. Wash the peanuts and tangerine peel and soak them for a while. Wash the winter melon and cut into large pieces. Pour about 3/5 of the boiling water into the pot. Add the dried bonito, peanuts, pork bones, and tangerine peel to the pot. Turn the pot to high heat and let the soup boil for 15 minutes before adding the winter melon.

  3. After three hours, season with salt and drink.
