The pumpkin is steamed. I steam it together with other foods, but it can also be cooked in the microwave. I don't peel the pumpkin when I steam it. It's very convenient to peel it with a spoon after steaming.
-
Prepare sugar and dates. I use about 20g of sugar for 200g of flour, I like this ratio, it’s not too sweet.
-
Add water to pumpkin and use a food processor to make a paste. Don’t add too much water, you can also use milk.
-
The batter is very fine. You can't see the pumpkin in the steamed cake, only the golden color. It's great. If you don't have a food processor, you can mash it with a spoon.
-
After beating the batter, you can actually make pumpkin soup using this method.
-
Add sugar and yeast to the pumpkin paste. For yeast, use sugar-tolerant yeast. For 200 grams of flour, 3 or 4 grams of yeast will suffice. Chop the red dates and add them to the pumpkin paste.
-
Add flour and mix well.
-
The dough is a bit softer than our usual steamed bun dough. My dough is a little wet, it should be drier.
-
No need to knead the dough, just mix it evenly.
-
Divide the dough into heat-resistant containers. I used a six-inch cake mold and a heat-resistant bowl. The container needs to be greased.
-
Fermentation takes about 2 hours at room temperature of 25 degrees Celsius. It’s best to place it in a closed space, either a microwave or an oven, it doesn’t start and only uses the space.
-
After the dough has risen, there is a little too much dough in the bowl and it has risen too high.
-
Cut the dates into pieces and place on top of the risen dough.
-
Put it in a steamer and steam it. After the water boils, time it to 30 minutes.
-
Turn off the heat and steam for two minutes.
-
Let the pot cool slightly and then use a demoulding knife to remove it from the mold.
-
Cut into pieces and ready to eat.
