Moroccan mint tea

Overview

People who have tasted Moroccan cuisine have generally drank Moroccan mint tea. This tea is also known as Moroccan Whiskey. Speaking of this tea from Morocco, we have to talk about the history of Moroccan tea. Moroccan tea was introduced from China in the 18th century and became popular in Morocco in the mid-19th century. Although there are many tea-producing countries in the world, Morocco's tea has always been imported from China. Mint tea is not only the national drink of Morocco, but has also spread to other North African countries and has become an integral part of local life. Arab countries are male-dominated societies. Cooking is a woman's job, but making mint tea is the right of the man (the head of the family), which shows its importance. The same goes for Youyou. After drinking this tea, you won’t be able to forget it (laughs). It happened that Youyou had mint growing in his yard, so he thought of making this tea. Authentic mint tea uses Chinese pearl tea, which is called gunpowdertea in English. The method of making mint tea also varies depending on the region and season. The biggest feature of this tea is the organic combination of green tea and vanilla. The spiciness of mint and the fragrance of green tea are fully integrated. Take a sip and taste the unique Moroccan flavor. So now let’s see how it’s done!

Steps

  1. First prepare the materials and a teapot (since it is vanilla tea, a transparent glass teapot looks more beautiful, or a traditional Moroccan silver teapot is also very good). For tea, Chinese green tea is fine. Youyou is in Japan, so I use sencha instead (sencha is also a type of green tea), and it tastes good.

  2. First boil a pot of boiling water, then put the tea leaves into the teapot and pour about 150ml of boiling water. If you are using ordinary green tea, it is recommended to wash the tea once. It is better not to wash the tea. Youyou uses Japanese sencha. The best green tea in Japan is called "Gyokuro", followed by "sencha". Therefore, Youyou did not wash the tea. If you are using very high-quality green tea (such as high-quality Longjing or Biluochun), it is recommended to add mint leaves and sugar first, and then add the high-quality tea leaves when the water temperature drops a little.

  3. Next add sugar and mint leaves. You need to put a lot of sugar, but Youyou doesn't like it to be too sweet, and the amount of mint is not much, so I only put 30g. The sweetness is enough for Youyou. If you think it's not enough, you can add more sugar.

  4. As for mint, it is best to use arrow mint menthaviridis to make Moroccan mint tea. If it is not available, ordinary mint can be used instead. If you like the mint flavor, you can add more and less at the beginning. If you feel the flavor is not enough, you can add more later and adjust it according to your taste. In Morocco, you usually put enough mint leaves to fill the entire teapot. Mash a little when putting it in, or pinch it with your hands to release the fragrance from the mint leaves.

  5. Finally, fill the teapot with boiling water, wait until the sugar is fully dissolved, shake it well, and the tea is ready.

  6. The Moroccan mint tea that Youyou drank before was packed in this silver Berrad pot. Very beautiful! Finally, I wish you a good mood!
