Overview

Banlan is a favorite spice among Malaysians and Singaporeans. It is usually used in making pastries and dishes. Generally, pastries are made by removing the leaves and squeezing the juice. The resulting pastries have a fragrant taste.

Steps

  1. Add glutinous rice flour to rice flour and sugar into a bowl and mix

  2. Wash the variegated leaves and put them into a food processor to squeeze the juice

  3. Strain the variegated leaf juice

  4. Pour the pandan leaf juice into the mixed rice noodles

  5. Mix it into a loose shape, pick it up with your hands and knead it into a doughy shape, then cover it and let it sit for 1 hour to allow the rice noodles to fully absorb the water

  6. Sift the rice flour that has fully absorbed the water

  7. Put dried cranberries into the rose mold

  8. Add rice flour loosely and scrape it evenly

  9. Put it into a steamer and steam over high heat for 15 minutes, then place it in gauze and continue steaming for about 15 minutes
