Mom’s recipe for cough relief—steamed eggs with sugar and oil (also known as beads hidden in snow)

Overview

The autumn wind is blowing and the weather is getting colder. This is the season of homesickness. When I was a child, I would cough when autumn and winter were relatively dry. My mother tried all kinds of remedies, one of which was this steamed egg with sugar and oil. I don’t know if it’s because I preconceived it as medicine or something else, but every time I take it, it’s like taking medicine. Mom pinched our noses to feed us. As for us, we endured nausea and quietly hid the things in our mouths, and vomited them out quickly after mom left. Then one time, I didn’t know why but I chewed it twice and suddenly realized that it tasted pretty good! After that, I began to look forward to steamed eggs with sugar and oil. (Of course, I still pretend that I don’t like eating, because the less we don’t eat, the more she has to do it). So, every time I coughed, my mother gently touched my forehead to see if I had a fever, and then asked gently, "Can I make you a candy egg?" I snorted feebly (of course I was pretending, I was afraid that I would appear too lively and my mother would think I had nothing to do so she wouldn't do it for me). I didn't know whether I agreed or disagreed, so my mother went to feed me. She fed her food in small bites, and I tasted it bit by bit. In fact, I longed to finish it all in one go, but I still had to pretend. As the saying goes: The stupid boss is a fool, the second boss is a traitor, and every family has a bad third boss. How come the boss and the third child don’t know, but it seems like the second child is really a traitor, hahaha! As for whether eggs steamed with sugar and oil are useful for relieving coughs, I don't know. I didn’t remember anything when I was a child, and I didn’t verify it when I grew up. Maybe it's just a placebo! It is not my placebo, it is the placebo for the anxious mother next to her child who coughs in the middle of the night when the autumn wind gradually picks up the chill...
