Overview

When we were young, the Chinese New Year day was the happiest day for us as children. Our parents were busy chopping stuffings, making dumplings, frying fried food (fried dough sticks, lotus root clips, radish balls), steaming big steamed buns, preparing the most sumptuous meal of the year. In an era of scarcity, being able to eat dumplings and fried food was the happiest time. Watching my mother skillfully cut the lotus root slices, wrap them in batter, and fry them in oil into golden lotus root clips, we were a group of eager little greedy cats who were dumbfounded.
