Overview

Chaoshan people like to worship gods and make various kinds of rice cakes to worship gods. Different rice cakes are made in different festivals. For example: the father-in-law is a bogeyman, the end of the year to thank the gods is usually a red shell peach, the Lantern Festival chandelier is a fried rice cake, and the Youshen Competition usually has a fat cake, a sweet cake, a fried rice cake, and a shell peach. The mother of grains is Gusui Kueh. On Chinese Valentine's Day, people pay pomegranate cakes, Shuangjialou, and Jiuqu cakes to the bed-mother. During the Mid-Autumn Festival, we make crispy dumplings; during the Winter Festival, we make Caitouyuan (radish cake) and Gonggao (potato cake). Among them, my favorite ones are cabbage balls and common cakes. The top of the cabbage is white radish. At the end of the year, white radish is on the market in large quantities and costs only a few cents per pound. At this time, the cost of making cabbage balls is greatly reduced. There are two types of cabbage noodles: rice noodles and potato noodles, and the methods are the same. I prefer potato starch. It tastes smooth and tender, with a bit of sweetness from cabbage and a good texture. I made this for the Chinese New Year, but I never had time to upload it.   9. Pour in the sweet potato starch [about three pounds of cabbage and one pound of potato starch] and an appropriate amount of your favorite condiments in portions. Use your hands to "mix" the white radish, peanuts, salt and potato starch until completely mixed together.

  10. Add more water to the steamer and start cooking over high heat.

  11. Get a large steamer and lay it with a cooking cloth. (Since the shape of the cabbage rounds is not fixed, laying the cooking cloth is to prevent some of the cabbage rounds from flowing out of the holes in the steamer, which will make the cabbage rounds look ugly after being cooked.)

  13. When done, place them separately in the steamer. You can see peanuts dotted on it, isn’t it cute? Soon a dozen "vegetable balls" were ready. In order to avoid the "deformation" of the cabbage balls, they should be placed on the pot and steamed immediately. Of course, there are more than just a few cabbage heads for so many kilograms, because unlike potato cakes, it can be done in one go, so make it more times.

Add a little bit of rice red ("rice red" is food dye) and a little bit of water, mix well, and use a small stick to put big dots on the head of each cabbage cake. (It can also be a larger one in the middle, surrounded by the other four small dots.) My mother said that this is just for the sake of beauty during worship. In fact, although the beige color is beautiful, it is poisonous. Eating too much is not good for your health.
