Celery Toast Sticks—a crunchy, salty snack

Overview

When I was a kid, I loved eating all kinds of salty, crunchy things. At that time, my mother sold tobacco, alcohol and non-staple food on the street. Every time she came back, she would bring us some crispy rice, soda crackers and other snacks. My home is about half an hour away from the city by bicycle. In order to make more money, my mother often closes the stall very late. Every time she returns home, it is completely dark. Often we have been out of school for a long time and our mother hasn’t come back yet, so we run to the entrance of the village to wait. The road at the entrance of the village is so long, and the south wind blows every night. My mother's way home is always against the wind. We waited and waited, and saw a car riding back with difficulty in the distance. We hurried to meet it with great expectation, but it was not the same; we waited for another car, but it was not the same. We often say that if we wait for another five cars, we should go back and not wait. But five cars went by and five cars came, and five cars went by and five cars came again. If you get it wrong, you will be disappointed. If you wait for a long time without a car, you will be scared and have random thoughts. Just like that, we waited until that familiar figure... When we saw our mother's figure from a distance, we didn't dare to recognize it. We moved a few steps forward and took a closer look, and it seemed that it wasn't her; if we moved a few steps further, it seemed like she was again. The mother rode hard against the wind. Occasionally she raised her head and saw three small figures in front of her. She didn't know if they were her children. After riding a few more times, it seemed like they were, and after another look, it seemed like they weren't. Until we got close, my mother tentatively called out: Zhenzhenhey - when the three of us heard that it was mom, we no longer hesitated in our steps. We ran and shouted to greet her: mom, mom... One helped her hold the bag, one helped her push the car, and the other held her hand, talking and laughing as we walked back. Sometimes if we wait too long, we will be afraid, we will have random thoughts, and we will ask our sister, what will happen to my mother? ——We dare not say what happened. My sister hugged us and cried. While we were crying, she kept looking into the distance to see if there was that figure in front of us. When I saw my mother, my tears turned into laughter again. Mom saw the undried tears in our eyes, and her eyes were also wet. She would force a smile and say jokingly, "You have been waiting for me for so long, do you think I will bring you delicious food?" We laughed and wrote an article. In fact, my mother and we all know that what we are thinking about is that she returns home late...
