Overview
Zhen is a local specialty snack, a sweet made from glutinous rice flour. We didn’t eat much of it when we were young, and we usually only had it during the Chinese New Year, so we are looking forward to it. The Yuan Ma Zhi I made this time, as the name suggests, is made of Yuan Ma Zhi. I used to think that making Zhen is a magical thing. Until recently, my child’s parent wmn taught us how to make it and provided materials for me to practice. I was very excited for a day. The finished Yuan Ma Zhi was shared with everyone.

Let me first introduce the Yuanma leaves. The leaves of the Yuanma tree are very similar to mulberry leaves. The biggest difference is that the back of the Yuanma leaves is silvery white, while the front and back of the mulberry leaves are green. In addition, the Yuanma leaves are shorter than the mulberry trees.

Big pineapple, also called jackfruit or tree pineapple, has thick and smooth leaves that serve as a base for the pan, are fragrant and non-stick to the pan.

Toast sesame seeds, heat up and down to 150 degrees, and bake for 40 minutes. You can also stir-fry in a wok until fragrant (the glass door of the oven shines light on you, please ignore it).

After the sesame seeds have cooled, use a food processor to grind them into powder.

Fry the peanuts for a few minutes until fragrant, or roast them until fragrant (I made sesame seeds and peanuts at the same time, so I used a wok and an oven respectively).

After peeling the peanuts, put them into a plastic bag and smash them with a rolling pin.

Mix sesame powder, crushed peanuts and 200 grams of sugar to make the filling and set aside.

Wash the Yuanma leaves, blanch them in water, cut them into small pieces, put them in a food processor, add an appropriate amount of water, and blend them into a pulp.

Pour the Yuanma leaf pulp into the pot and cook, add corn oil and the remaining 100 grams of sugar.

After the Yuanma leaf pulp is boiled, turn off the heat, add 250 grams of powder, and stir randomly with a spatula.

Stir ripe lumps in the pot.

Spread the remaining 15 grams of flour on the chopping board, scoop out the cooked lumps, and knead into a smooth dough while hot.

This is the portion of 8 zhen. Divide the dough into 8 portions, wrap in sesame and peanut filling, shape into a round shape, and cover with large pineapple leaves.

After boiling the water, steam for 8 minutes.
