Laba porridge

Laba porridge

Overview

The twelfth month of the lunar calendar is also called the twelfth lunar month, so the eighth day of the twelfth lunar month is also commonly known as Laba. I remember there was a jingle when I was a kid: Don’t be greedy, little kids, it’s the New Year after Laba. After Laba Festival, the flavor of the New Year will become more intense. When I was a child, it was more about looking forward to the Chinese New Year than I loved the Laba festival. During the Chinese New Year, you can have a big holiday without going to school. There are a lot of snacks and delicious food, as well as new clothes and New Year's money. What's more important is that during the Chinese New Year, as long as you don't go to the house and destroy the roof, no adults will fix you, and you can be wild. Now that I am getting older, I have lost interest in all festivals. The only thing that remains is my love for the delicacies that accompany each festival. So of course you have to drink Laba porridge during the Laba Festival! When preparing the ingredients, I discovered that there are really many kinds of cereals at home! I grabbed a handful of everything except rice, glutinous rice, millet, black rice, red kidney beans, walnuts, peanuts, lotus seeds, red dates, raisins, and longans on the tray. Later, we found soybeans, mung beans, black beans, red beans, barley, peas and chestnuts, totaling eighteen kinds. During the cold Laba Festival, make a pot of fragrant Laba porridge and drink a delicious bowl with salted duck eggs and Laba garlic. It is both suitable for the occasion and warms up!
